30-day Extension for the Botched Mobil

The bad news: the supposed-to-be smooth shift from .Mac to a more advanced and well-designed .MobileMe turned out really bad—and the company even botched it. The good news, though, is that the company is extending the free trial version up to three days, as long as you remain a subscriber.

Apple sent an e-mail to all their subscribers, informing them of the real cause of the problem. Even if everything has been going really well for Back to My Mac, Gallery, Mail, and iDisk, all other applications have gone berserk, which then led to several problems and technical issues that need to be solved right away.

Subscribers of MobileMe can just take a look at their account setting within the coming weeks, to see if the said extension has already been reflected.

The Changes with MobilMe

All subscribers to .Mac will have to upgrade their system to MobileMe. This is to make sure that everyone can take advantage of a much better Internet service for iPhone users. These transformations include the following:

1. The storage capacity is increased to twice the actual size. If subscribers are currently enjoying their 10GB storage space today, they can look forward to double the size with MobileMe, and they don’t even have to pay for anything. Nevertheless, it will not automatically reflect in their account. A subscriber may have to wait at most 10 days for this.

2. Users will have their own domain name under me.com. Galleries and web links are not only accessible through .Mac, but they can also be stored at me.com. Users will also have their own domain names, so it becomes easier for them to log, share, or even bookmark their own accounts.

3. There will be no change to their login accounts. Present subscribers of .Mac don’t have to open new accounts for .MobileMe. They are still very useful, and as long as there is still no official announcement from Apple, they are still going to be utilized.

4. E-mails that are being stored or backed up can still be accessed in MobileMe. The shift doesn’t also mean that you will lose all your essential and confidential information, such as your e-mails and those files that are stored in .Mac iDisk. They can still be accessed even if you move to MobileMe. However, there are some features that you may not be able to use. These include the .Mac slides and the iCards.

5. You will not be able to update bookmarked websites. If you have existing bookmarked websites in Mac, then you should have taken the measure of synching them with your Safari before the end of June. Otherwise, you will not be able to access or even update them now. You basically have to start from the beginning, which means deleting and adding them again. Nevertheless, you can still sync your Mac with your PCs, as MobileMe will still be able to synchronize bookmarks across desktop PCs and even laptop, or even push them to your iPod Touch or iPhone.
